Hypnagogia is the state between being awake and asleep. During this time people can experience OBE's, sleep paralysis and hallucinations (or less tangible psychal impressions).
One night while falling asleep I saw an approximation of this image in the void of the back of my eyelids.
A tipped over Christmas Tree shape, colored in like fish scales, with some sort of disc/tube topper.

I love your brain. That's fantastic you were able to catch and sketch the image, as fleeting as those can be. My last dream was of a hidden room in my grandparents basement where the sounds of slicing meat and screams bellowed forth.
